Cans

In Southampton last year, 32 tonnes of cans were collected from the recycling banks.Recycling cans reduces the amount of rubbish going to landfill, extending the life of our landfill sites and reduces the amount of raw materials used in the manufacturing process, such as iron-ore, coking coal and limestone.

Glass

In Southampton last year, 1,273 tonnes of glass were collected from the local bottle banks. Recycling glass reduces the quantity going to landfill sites, reducing disposal costs and extending the life of our landfill sites.

Plastics

Recycling plastic bottles reduces the amount of rubbish going to landfill, extending the life of our landfill sites. It also conserves non-renewable fuels and energy.

Textiles

In Southampton last year, nearly 160 tonnes of textiles were collected from local recycling banks. All clothes, accessories and shoes you no longer want are valuable; as long as they are clean someone will want them. Recycling textiles reduces the amount of landfill space being used, reduces the need for new resources and makes savings on energy.
