What if I disagree with the decision?
If you are not happy with a decision we have made about your benefit you have 1 month from the date of our letter telling you the decision to either:
Dispute the decision. This means we will look at our decision again to check it is correct and amend it if necessary, or,
Appeal against the decision. If you use the word 'appeal' in your letter we will look at the decision again, but if we cannot amend it your appeal will go straight to an Appeals Tribunal for them to make a decision. The tribunal is an independent body.
You do only have 1 month to dispute or appeal against our decision. After that you must give good reason why we should accept it and there is an absolute time limit of 13 months that can never exceed.
We have a designed a booklet to help you through the appeal process. If you would like a copy we can send you one or you can collect one from any local Housing office or Gateway Civic Centre.
