How much housing & council tax benefit can I claim?

Housing and council tax benefits are 'means tested' which means we take into account all the income and capital you receive to see how much benefit you would be entitled to.

Your housing benefit may cover all of your rent, but this does depend on how much your rent you pay and whether it is a reasonable amount for the type of property you live in.

The minimum amount of housing benefit that we can pay to you is 50 pence a week. The minimum for council tax benefit is one penny a week.

Although this may not seem much it is still worth claiming as you may be entitled to claim other benefits once you have housing and/or council tax benefit.

These benefits include:

FREE Southampton City Leisure Card. Telephone 023 80832455.

FREE P.D.S.A. treatment for sick and injured animals (they will just ask for a donation). Telephone 023 8022 2622.

HALF PRICE for any pest control issues that can be dealt with by Southampton City Council. Telephone 023 8083 2531.

REDUCTIONS may also be available on some adult education courses.
