Proof of income
We need to see proof of all your and your partner's income and savings. The proofs must be originals, not photocopies.
| Income | Proof needed |
| Wages | The last 2 pay slips if paid monthly, the last 5 wage slips if paid weekly, or, the last 3 wage slips if paid fortnightly. |
| Self - employed | Your audited accounts for the last 12 months and you must also complete the self-employed questionnaire (SE1). |
| Benefits - including child benefit, state pension, working family tax credit, and incapacity benefit. | Your benefit book or award letter (all pages) |
| Private pension or works pension. | The last 2 payment slips or bank statements for the last 2 months. |
| Other income - including child support, and charity receipts. | Original documents showing these payments |
| Savings - we need proof of all savings and investments. | The last 2 months bank, building society statements. Paying in books, Share certificates, National Saving Certificates etc. |
| Non-dependants income. Anyone aged over 18 living with you may be classed as a non-dependant. | Proof of all their income and savings. |
Identity and National Insurance number proof
Proof of identity can be any of the documents listed below.
Savings
Your savings must be less than £16,000 to claim Housing or Council Tax Benefit. If you have a partner the joint total of your savings must not be above £16,000. If you receive the Guaranteed Pension Credit there is no limit on your savings.
