Kettles

Non-working and broken electrical items such as kettles, toasters and hairdryers can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre for recycling, free of charge. The council runs a Bulky Items collection service if you are unable to dispose of it yourself.

Keys
Metal keys can be put in the green lidded rubbish bin but are accepted for metal recycling at the Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Kitchen waste
Please place kitchen waste such as leftover food in your green-lidded general waste bin. Kitchen waste is not accepted in the blue-lidded recycling bin or the garden waste bin. Vegetable peelings and fruit skins can be composted. The Council works with a national company to provide cheaper home composters, see the Get Composting website and enter your postcode. You could also take advantage of a special food waste digester offer which the council are subsidising. The Green Johanna can compost meat, fish, cooked and uncooked food. Please see www.greatgreensystems.com or call 0800 731 2572.
