Local Development Framework

(Also known as: Local development plans )

The ‘Local Development Framework (LDF)’ is the term used to describe the development plans affecting a local area. The plans affecting Southampton are available here. These plans are important because they set out how we want our city to look and feel. The plans will influence planning applications and decisions for the future development of the city.

There are broadly two types of plan. Development Plan Documents (DPD) including the Local Plan Review and Supplementary Plans (SPD). DPDs are more important and SPDs supplement them (where relevant).

The Local Development Framework (LDF) includes the City Centre Action Plan. The LDF is supported by a range of Background Evidence. Other plans affecting Southampton include Regional and Sub Regional Plans and the Minerals & Waste Local Development Framework.

The consultation arrangements for the LDF are outlined in the Statement of Community Involvement. The LDF is monitored by an Annual Monitoring Report released each December.

The Local Plan Review is the most up to date development plan for Southampton.
