Core Strategy Integrated Sustainability Appraisal (SA/SEA/AA)

An assessment process called a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) must be undertaken on the Core Strategy during its production to look at the effects of the plan and ensure it accords with sustainable development. The Sustainability Appraisal incorporates SA/SEA/AA and is being prepared independently.

The Sustainability Appraisal must be undertaken on the Core Strategy during its production to look at the effects of the plan and ensure it accords with sustainable development. The Sustainability Appraisal incorporates SA/SEA/AA and is being prepared independently by Halcrow Consultants Ltd.
The 'SA' stands for Sustainability Appraisal and looks into the social, environmental and economic effects of the Core Strategy. The 'SEA' stands for Strategic Environmental Assessment and looks into the specific environmental impacts of the Core Strategy. Finally 'AA' stands for Appropriate Assessment, this looks into how the plan will impact upon internationally important wildlife sites.
The aim of the 'SA/SEA/AA' is to input into the Core Strategy, influence its content to ensure that the plan is sustainable.
