Development Plan Documents

Development Plan Documents (DPDs) are statutory documents that have significant planning 'weight' when determining planning applications and development proposals in the city. These plans are more important than Supplementary Plans. The 'Planning Southampton to 2026' Preferred Options Core Strategy DPD is available here.

Details of service:

The following Development Plan Documents (DPDs) are planned to be produced over the next 4 years. Details of the plan production timetable are available in the Local Development Scheme (LDS) which is available on the Community Involvement and Plan Timetable page.

Core Strategy DPD - To be Adopted November/December 2009
City Centre Action Plan DPD - To be Adopted June/July 2011
Allocations DPD - To be Adopted September 2011
Development Control Policies DPD - To be Adopted June 2011

The above strategies will all replace different parts of the present development plan, the Local Plan Review (March 2006). The Local Plan will therefore be completely replaced by November 2011.

These statutory documents will all go through Examination in Public (EIP) and the following Inspector's report will be binding on the Council (i.e. we have to accept any changes made). These means that these strategies are important for the future development of the city and in making planning decisions- this is otherwise known as having significant planning 'weight' when determining planning applications and development proposals in the city.
