Starting a food business in Southampton

The Environmental Health service wants to work with people operating food businesses in Southampton. We can provide advice and information on setting up a new food business or taking over an existing business. ‘Setting up a food business in Southampton’ will answer many of your questions, but if you need more information you should contact the food safety service.

Registering the food business premises

The law requires food business operators to register their premises with the Environmental Health service at least 28 days before starting to operate. If you are planning to start a Environmental Health in Southampton, you should complete the registration form below and send it to the food safety service or register online. This form should also be used if you are taking over an existing business. Registering the premises is free of charge.

Managing food safety

The law requires food business operator to have documented food safety management systems. One way of complying with the law is to use the Food Standards Agency’s ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ pack. Further information can be found following the weblinks below.

Training
