The National Care Standards Commission takes up its regulatory functions in respect of nurses agencies under the Care Standards Act 2000 on 1 April 2003. This licence can be applied for from the Department of Health.

The National Care Standards Commission assumed its regulatory functions in respect of nurses agencies under the Care Standards Act 2000 on 1 April 2003.

This guidance sets out the process for the transfer of existing agencies licensed under the Nurses Agency Act 1957 into registration under the new system. It replaces the guidance on nurses agencies contained in "National Care Standards Commission transitional provisions and transfer of registration" issued on 14 November 2001 under covers of LAC (2001) 30.
