Events, arts and heritage - Southampton museums - Acquisitions

In order to maintain their audiences and develop their collections, museums and galleries need to acquire fascinating objects or new works of art.
Southampton is known world wide for its association with ocean-going liners, in particular the most evocative of them all the White Star liner, The Titanic. A collection of White Star Lines artefacts has been offered to Arts and Heritage by a local collector who has spent years assembling these objects which could form the centre piece to the exhibitions leading up to the 2012 anniversary commemorating the loss of the Titanic. The collection is valued at £50,000 and the Museum has begun fundraising. Sponsorship towards this target would be appropriately credited, and the sponsor fully involved in the conservation, unveiling and interpretation if the items.
Any exhibition associated with the Titanic is phenomenally popular, drawing audiences from all over the world, and getting substantial press and web coverage. The Centenary is clearly going to be a major event for the city; this is a unique and high profile way to contribute.
Arts and Heritage also run a Ship Loans scheme, similar to ArtLease. For a reasonable sum, calculated per foot of ship model, you could have a fascinating and superbly detailed ship model of one of the many vessels associated with Southampton on display in your office, reception area or Board Room. The models were made by craftsmen designers, skilled in making detailed models to promote the new design to potential passengers.
