Southampton Port Health Services is responsible for carrying out all the statutory functions of the Port Health Authority in Southampton sea port and airport.
We monitor annually: Over 1.2 million TEU* container movements of cargo over 79,000 shipping movements, 170 cruise ship arrivals and have diverse environmental health control functions.
We are a 24 hour/365 days a year service and operate from City Depot in Southampton. Our statutory boundary encompasses:
Southampton Water,
East and West Solent,
The Eastern Docks base for transatlantic liner operations, Western Docks,
The Container Terminals,
Marchwood Military Port,
Marine Oil Terminals at Fawley
Hamble Grain Terminals, river wharfs and the city airport
*TEU (Twenty Equivalent Unit) This is a non-standard unit of cargo capacity that is equivalent to 1 x 20 foot (6.1 meters) in length ISO container that can be easily transferred between various modes of transport. The longer type, 40 feet in length would be equivalent to 2 TEU's (2 x 20 foot containers)
