The procurement services for Southampton City Council operates strategically and professionally with the council’s directorates to:
Own, develop & implement the council’s procurement strategy (please see the link to the left of this page) to ensure that it operates in compliance with EU directives, the Public Contract Regulations 2006 and the council’s contract procedure rules;
Ensure that the council uses its contracts to meet its social, economic and environmental responsibilities.
Work to modernise the council’s procurement processes, thereby making it easier to do business with the council;
Increase the focus upon the council’s core policies such as sustainability, diversity and equality through the procurement process whilst seeking to achieve best value, thereby delivering savings to free up money to improve the quality of public services;
Work with collaborative procurement groups such as the Central Buying Consortium to create innovative supply solutions, thereby helping directorates achieve their objectives and deliver services;
Develop long-term business plans with directorates for key spend categories identifying future procurement opportunities and priorities; and
Develop high performing suppliers by actively managing and developing key suppliers to deliver improved service quality and performance.
