Animal health and welfare - livestock

Trading standards is responsible for the enforcement of animal health and welfare legislation. This is designed to:

  • Protect the welfare of livestock on farms, at markets and during transportation:

  • Prevent the outbreak and spread of animal disease

  • Ensure the proper disposal of animal by-products

  • Prevent the illegal importation of mammals with the potential to bring rabies into the country

The Animal Welfare Officer based in Environmental Health carries out a range of animal related services working closely with Warren Avenue Kennels.
