Junior Neighbourhood Wardens
The scheme helps improve the physical environment, promote citizenship and to tackle juvenile nuisance and anti social behaviour. It engages with young people, encouraging them to join in activities and offering rewards. The scheme has proved successful in educating the junior wardens about the negative effects of juvenile nuisance and the value of making their community a nicer place to live.
Regular events are organised where the juniors work alongside the council’s official Neighbourhood wardens and other council services to help improve their local area. These community events range from patrols, litter picks, clean ups, visits to fire stations, graffiti removal, recycling, visiting elderly people in sheltered accommodation, meeting the police at Netley training college, gardening, painting, wrapping Christmas presents for patients at Southampton general hospital, designing new play equipment and much, much more.
| What qualifications do I need? |
To be a Junior warden you have to be between 8 and 12 years old, although we will consider younger children if accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you are older than 12, you may qualify for becoming a Junior warden leader, helping the Neighbourhood wardens in running events. Sports day
