Educational visits

Here are some examples of possible educational visits:

Down to Earth Environmental Education Centre

We provide many activities to help teachers meet National curriculum requirements. Our programmes deal with issues like:

• food
• farm animals
• variety of life
• Minibeasts
• Sensory woodland activities
• Habitats and materials
• Micro-organisms
• Renewable energy

We run a small non-commercial farm where children can see and learn about common farm animals. We also have an area of mature woodland, grassland and a wildlife pond. We use these areas for ecological and environmental studies.

Our staff lead all visits to “Down to Earth” and schools follow programmes negotiated individually with visiting teachers. We also run some workshops in schools. Please ask if you would like full details of all our programmes, workshops and charges.

Hawthorns Education Service

Our education staff cover a range of subject areas like science, geography and personal development. We can tailor our work to the specific needs of your group. Our activities encourage children to explore and understand their local environment and ecosystems.

Our 'Teddy Bears' picnic is a fun and popular programme. This gives environmental education to children at key stage 1.

You must book in advance and meet with us to discuss your needs and plan the activities. You can book for a whole or half day.

Our staff can come to you and give advice on developing areas for wildlife and environmental education. We also assist students in exploring their local area and the school itself. We also run inset and teacher training days.

All age groups can use The Hawthorns.
