Admissions Guidance: Academic Year 2008-2009

Our booklets provide info for parents and carers applying for a school place for September 2008. You can download these from the menu on the right. If you would prefer to have a hard copy, please contact us.

Admissions Policies 2009-10

Admissions Policies for 2009-10 can be viewed here.

The Oasis Academies

From September 2008 we will have an Oasis Academy on both sides of the city. Academies are independent state schools and can set their own admission policy. For 2008-09 the two new schools will follow the same policy as the other secondary schools (except the Voluntary Aided schools).

Choice Advisory Service

This page tells you more about the Southampton Choice Advisor.

Voluntary aided schools

We have a number of Voluntary Aided schools in Southampton. The schools are Highfield C of E Primary, Holy Family Catholic Primary, Springhill Catholic Primary, St. Patrick's Catholic Primary, St. Anne's Catholic School and St. George Catholic College. These schools each have their own admissions policy. You can view these policies through the links on the right hand menu.

Further information about school admissions

In Year Transfer
There are two main reasons why you might be applying for a school place other than at the time of the normal admission round (Yr R/3/7):

  1. you might be moving house
  2. or may be unhappy with your child’s current school.

If your child is experiencing problems at his or her current school, you should first contact your child's tutor or head of year. They will be able to discuss the issues your child is experiencing and attempt to resolve the situation.

If you wish to apply for a secondary school place, you should then contact us to obtain an In-Year Transfer Form. If you would like to apply for an infant/junior/primary school place, you should contact the school you wish to apply to direct.

Appealing Against A Decision Not To Admit

In most cases, parents and carers have the right of appeal against a schools decision not to admit their child. If you would like to appeal, please contact us and we will send you the relevant papers to complete. Please note that appeals can take between 4 to 6 school weeks to arrange, and the decision of the appeal panel is legally binding for all parties involved.

Catchment Areas

If you would like to know the catchment area school that serves your home address, please contact us directly and we will be happy to help you.
