The City of Southampton award recognises people or groups who have made an exceptional contribution to the life of the city. The presentation is made at the city council's annual meeting in May each year by the out going Mayor.

Dr Cheryl ButlerDr Cheryl Butler

Cheryl has become very well known in Southampton for her involvement in many ventures and societies connected with her enthusiasm for recording the history of the City and for promoting its culture and heritage. Dr. Butler is writer and director for the popular Sarah Siddons Fan Club, a local theatre group which takes themes from local history to be performed on the streets in the City. She is a Blue Badge Guide and is very much involved in training others. This award is presented in recognition of her unstinting efforts in bringing Southampton forward and improving the quality to Southampton’s historical and cultural history.

Doug PerryDoug Perry

Doug was born in the City in 1932 and has lived here all his life. He works very hard as the Chairman of the Friends of Riverside Park and recently persuaded Southampton City Council to build a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area). Doug was until recently the Chairman of Southampton Cricket league, serving 37 years, as well as being the president of City Sunday Football league. This award is presented in recognition of Doug’s tireless work he has given in his community, Bitterne Park and his home City.
