Replacement care consultation

This consultation is about the way we plan to provide replacement (respite) care in the future.

  • Replacement care was known as respite care
  • Respite care was often provided for both the cared for person and the carer. This usually used one or two types of services
  • The Care Act has made it clearer that replacement care should be provided to replace the care given by the unpaid carer to enable them to have a break
  • In the future we want to be clearer about why we are providing replacement care
  • We also want to make sure we provide replacement care in a fair and consistent manner to carers. Currently it is provided very differently to different people
  • We also need to make sure it is legally compliant with the new Care Act

The consultation closed on 8 April 2016.
