Committees

Councillors are appointed to serve on Council committees and panels and to represent the Council on a range of other organisations and working groups.

At the Annual Council meeting, the Council decides on its Committee structure and the terms of reference and membership for each of its committees and sub-committees (also known as panels). Other decisions can be made during the year by the Council, Cabinet, and Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee including setting up new panels, changes to memberships and appointments of chairs. As well as appointing councillors to council committees and panels, the Council and the Cabinet appoint councillors to represent the Council on approximately 100 other committees, boards, partnership bodies and working groups. These other appointments are generally made at the first Cabinet meeting after Annual Council although changes can be made by Council and Cabinet during the year.
