Training and development benefits of working for SCC

As an accredited Investor in People, Southampton City Council is fully committed to developing employees at all levels in line with our stated business objectives. Our annual investment is planned at Corporate, Directorate and Divisional level and we offer a diverse range of programmes each year through an internal training calendar.

This investment is supported by a minimum learning entitlement of three days per employee per year. Training and development activities may take place on or off the job and can include:

- approved courses of study and training leading to formal qualifications
- planned time out for research, project work and networking
- secondment opportunities
- job shadowing
- coaching
- attendance at training courses and seminars.

Employees are encouraged to discuss development needs and opportunities at regular intervals through one to one meetings and their annual appraisal.
