Jobs and training

If you need help to find a job, there are many organisations in the city that can support you. This can be practical help such as CV writing, filling in applications and interview practice, as well as support to boost your confidence and help you to feel ready for work.

These pages contain information on the organisations and services that can help you to get back into work - you can contact them directly to find out about the type of support they offer. Our A to Z employment support directory is a useful place to get started.

Click on the links on the left for further information.

Have you considered working for the council? Or in a school?

Apprenticeships and volunteering

Apprenticeships offer work based training and experience while earning a wage. We recruit trade apprenticeships at the council each year.
You can search for vacancies on the National Apprenticeship Service website, the link is at the bottom of this page.

Volunteering can also be a great way to gain work experience and enhance your CV. There are some useful links at the bottom of this page to help you find volunteer work.
You can also volunteer at your local library, try volunteer speed dating, or volunteer in your local community.
