Work experience, placements and apprenticeships with the Council

Work experience, placements and apprenticeships with the Council

Southampton city council is committed to providing work experience and other opportunities for both for young people and for others who might face barriers to employment.

We also work with a number of local agencies to provide placements for people with a disability or who are disadvantaged in the labour market.

Apprenticeships

Information from Southampton City Council about modern apprenticeships for 16-19 year olds.

New Deal

The council has signed up to the government's New Deal programme so any New Deal vacancies will be advertised through Jobcentreplus.

Student placements with the council

We will consider all requests for work experience from students. However our priorities are to place students from Southampton schools for Year 10 work experience. If you would like to do your work experience with the council then let the department know in writing.

Work experience

Working with local agencies, we are able to offer work experience placements with priority given to people who are experiencing barriers to employment, for example because of a disability, or a health problem, or for lone parents.
