Details of service:
The enviro-watch scheme has been developed to encourage group of residents who would like to help look after their immediate locality. Enviro-watch groups work with the city council`s open spaces team, to remove small outbreaks of graffiti. They also assist by reporting problems such as fly tipping, litter, fly posting and serious amounts of graffiti.
Enviro-watch coordinators/groups are trained and issued with a special environmentally friendly graffiti removal kit to enable them to safely remove small amounts of graffiti. They are also encouraged to report problems, such as graffiti, to the open spaces team. A similar scheme has been successfully developed in Lewisham, where over 500 residents are actively involved, each looking after a small local patch. Southampton City Council already has 130 groups involved with the enviro-watch scheme. Local people have been trained and provided with environmentally friendly equipment to remove small amounts of graffiti and fly posters. Further training includes how to contact key council services i.e. city enforcement team (for littering and dog fouling), area cleansing/grounds maintenance co-ordinators, litter education officer and city safety team.
If you are interested in finding out more about the enviro-watch scheme, contact the cleansing team.
