What is a Nuisance?
A definition of "a statutory nuisance" is given in the Environmental Protection Act 1990. We have listed some of the more common nuisances here and our officers are able to use a range of methods and powers to help resolve these problems. The law says statutory nuisances include:
Noise - noise emitted from premises that may be a hazard to health or a nuisance.
Rubbish - accumulations or deposits which are a hazard to health or a nuisance.
Light – light from domestic premises (usually security lighting) that is harmful to health or a nuisance.
- Bonfires – smoke emitted from premises so as to be hazard to health or a nuisance.
We can also provide help with other matters that can affect your quality of life and the public's health, These include:-
Clinical Waste Collection
Pest Control
We also manage the council's Out of Hours Noise Service which works outside normal office hours, with the main aim of reducing noise nuisance within the city.
