Hazardous waste collection

Southampton City Council does not collect hazardous waste. For removal of hazardous waste please contact a private company.

Household rubbish - large items

Replacing the bed or the sofa and need to dispose of the old one? The council provides a service to collect large rubbish items from households in the city.

Household Waste Recycling Centre

If you have additional household waste that can not fit in your weekly collection or cannot be recycled then there are household waste recycling centre available in and around Southampton.

The day of the week that your rubbish and recycling is collected depends on the area you live in. These pages will give you information on collection days and changes for national/bank holidays.

Clinical Waste Collection Service

Clinical Waste (soiled swabs, dressings, needles, etc) are collected separately to ensure that potentially dangerous waste is prevented from entering into the ordinary collection service.

Skips

If you are doing some DIY or work around the house, the Council can hire you a skip (subject to conditions being met).
