Managing your rubbish

When dealing with your rubbish it's important to remember that it's not just about recycling - it's all about the 3 R's. Remember to:

  • Reduce

  • Reuse

  • Recycle

Most important of all is to reduce the amount of rubbish created in the first place - by doing this we can lessen the problems later on. Most of the items that we throw away can be reused for a different purpose or passed on to someone else. Many of the items that we are unable to reduce or reuse can be recycled and turned into new products. Finally if nothing else can be done with the rubbish then it has to be disposed of.

Reduce

Reducing the amount of rubbish that you produce is one of the most important steps. Here are some tips to help you to rubbish your waste.

Reuse

How to reuse your rubbish.

Recycling

If you can't reuse your rubbish check whether or not its recyclable and either take it to your nearest recycling bank or use your kerbside recycling bin.

Waste Disposal Strategy

The waste management service has a Waste Disposal Strategy for dealing with the waste generated in the city. It includes information on how waste is disposed of and where it goes once it has been collected from your home. Further information on the strategy can be found on these pages.
