Reuse
How to reuse your rubbish:
Use plastic bags for your next shopping trip or as bin liners
Use glass jars and plastic tubs as storage containers
Reuse your kitchen and garden waste to make compost
Donate unwanted clothing, toys and books to charity shops or sale them at a jumble sale
Use old towels and sheets as rags for car maintenance and DIY
If you buy new household items, but your old ones are still in good working condition, you can donate them to charity shops or organisations that are reusing them for families in need or resettlement projects. Organisations to contact are:
DORCAS Project 023 8077 3132 (after 10am)
Resettlement Project on 023 8022 3860 (before 3pm)
Oxfam on 023 8070 4411
These organisations collect reusable items such as furniture, bedding, curtains and utensils.
Household Items
Oxfam provides two banks for recycling books in Southampton. Look out for the small green banks at Tesco, Millbrook in Trebourba Way, as well as at the Lordshill Sainsbury's recycling site.
