Home boarding licence (dog sitting)

If you are operating a home boarding or ‘dog sitting’ service within the city of Southampton, you require a licence from Southampton City Council.

Apply for a licence

The Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963 requires local authorities to charge a fee as part of the application. You will find details of all fees in the table below.

A licence is valid from the date of issue until the end of the year to which it relates to. Licence renewals are valid from the 1 January or the date the application is received, which ever is later.

You can find further information about licences for animals on our dedicated page.

Please note: if a sitter is paid to care for dogs in the dog owner’s home then there is no licence requirement.
