Energy management procedures

We carry out a number of projects to reduce energy throughout the council estate, funded by Salix Finance; a public sector 0% energy efficiency loan scheme.

This includes:

  • lighting replacement
  • upgrading heating systems and controls
  • insulation
  • improvement to building management systems

Completed projects so far are saving an estimated £40,000 per year. The final figure will be more than £75,000 per year. Add to this the other projects we are doing, and we're saving about £183,000 on our annual energy bills, more than £70,000 of which was on behalf of our schools.

Joint energy procurement contract

Kent Laser procures our energy as cheaply as possible and provides us with automated billing. Organisations that have joined the contract pay approximately 35% lower energy bills. If you are interested in joining the Kent Laser contract, please contact us at energy@southampton.gov.uk

SystemsLink energy management system

SystemsLink, our management software, helps us to monitor and manage the energy consumption of the council and its schools. Reports can be accessed by all sites. If you would like to submit meter readings for your 'non-smart' meters, you can do so using SystemsLink.

Guidance to reports on systems link and how to read meters documents are available to download.

Energy partnership

The energy partnership brings together organisations and businesses in the city to share best practice on energy reduction in their buildings and operations.

The partnership is co-chaired by us and the University of Southampton. If you are interested in joining the partnership, please contact us at energy@southampton.gov.uk
