Starting a food business in Southampton

The Environmental Health service wants to work with people operating food businesses in Southampton. We can provide advice and information on setting up a new food business or taking over an existing business (see document below).

The law requires food business operators to register their premises with the Environmental Health service at least 28 days before starting to operate. If you are planning to start a food business in Southampton you should download and complete the registration form below. This form should also be used if you are taking over an existing business.

Registering the premises is free of charge.

Managing food safety

The law requires food business operator to have documented food safety management systems. One way of complying with the law is to use the Food Standards Agency’s ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ pack.
