
Southampton City Council fact sheet
The Cabinet and individual cabinet members, make executive decisions relating to services provided by the council, except those matters which are reserved for decision by the full council, and planning and licensing matters which are dealt with by specialist regulatory panels.
Each cabinet member has responsibility for one of the following service portfolios:
* Adult Social Care and Health
* Children’s services
* Economic Development
* Environment and transport
* Housing and Local Services
* Leader’s
* Leisure, Culture and Heritage
* Resources
* Young People and Skills
Public involvement
Members of the public can attend the meetings although occasionally some of the cabinet’s work may be required to be carried out in private session.
Reports for decision by the cabinet or by individual cabinet members are submitted initially for consultation, when interested members of the public may, with the consent of the cabinet Chair or the individual cabinet members as appropriate, make representations.
The reports, modified as appropriate to reflect any representations received, are then submitted for decision at the following executive decision making.
