Pilot scheme

A successful pilot scheme was launched in February 2006 at the 6 tower blocks overlooking Southampton water in Weston. These are: Canberra, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo, Havre and Hampton Towers.

The service is already improving the quality of life in the area. Residents have already told the council through surveys that they are more satisfied with the neighbourhood as a place to live.

The concierge service is working closely with the local housing office, other locally-based staff, the council’s city patrol service and the police to ensure that the service continues to have a noticeable impact.

The success of the pilot scheme has resulted in a decision by the council to extend the scheme to a further 14 blocks in the city subject to approval by residents through a consultation programme. This consultation programme will be conducted on a block-by-block basis and will include an ‘open day’ to outline the scheme in more detail and to allow residents and other interested parties to express their views.

A projected programme for the works is being developed, subject to the residents in each block concerned approving the scheme. The blocks included in the scheme (subject to the consultation) are:-

 Albion Towers
 Canute House
 Dumbleton Towers
 Hightown Towers
 Holyrood House
 Meredith Towers
 Millbank House
 Millbrook Towers
 Redbridge Towers
 Shirley Towers
 St. James House
 Sturminster House
