Applying for a school place

How do I apply for a school place?

Online applications for year R, 3 and 7 places to start in September 2014 have now closed. You may manage an existing online application by logging in to the system using the box on the right. For what happens next, please see our how school places are allocated page.

If you have missed the online application deadline, please contact the school admissions team using the contact details at the bottom of the page to be sent a paper form to complete. Your application will be treated as late, and will be dealt with after all on-time applications.

If you wish to apply for a school place to start before September 2014, you cannot apply online. If you have recently moved to Southampton, or you are not happy with your child's current school, please see our changing schools page.

When will I know if my child has a place?

For information on the next steps in the process and when you will find out if your child has a place, please see our how school places are allocated page.

Please note that you cannot visit the Admissions Team in person. Please contact them using either the telephone number or email address at the bottom of this page.

School admissions - Useful information

Admissions policies and useful information

Most Southampton schools follow the Local Authority's (LA) Admissions policy, but some schools follow their own admissions policy and you must apply to the school for a place. For more information please see the following pages:

  • Other school admissions policies 2014-15

The page linked above lists the admissions policies for schools which do not follow Southampton City Council's admissions policy, and also provides the Supplementary Information Forms (SIF) you may also need to complete.
