Our Vision

On the internetOur Vision

Last year schools helped us create a vision for primary education in Southampton. This was about raising standards, improving learning environments, creating a good choice of schools and making it easier for pupils to move from infant to junior and then junior to secondary education.

Read the full vision.

This is the vision that we are now helping schools to achieve through a primary review. Our primary review will eventually look at infant, junior and primary school arrangements across the whole city. The aim is to make sure our vision for the best possible schools during the primary years is being achieved.

We will be looking to see if we can help schools by:
• investing in their learning environments, so they can provide the best possible educational experience for children and families
• reviewing the number of places they have to make sure this meets local need
• looking at how they can improve pupils’ transition between primary and secondary education, so they achieve their best throughout their school career.

How can our vision be achieved?

How can our vision be achieved?

Over the next 15 years the government intends to invest millions of pounds in primary schools through its Primary Capital Programme (PCP). The aim of the programme is to improve and build new schools to help raise standards.

We have written our vision to make sure that when we start using the PCP money we are not only building new classrooms. We want to make sure they are in the right place and help schools improve children’s learning.

The PCP is being offered to the city in instalments, so we have decided to look at small groups of schools one at a time to use the funding most effectively as it arrives.
