Local Authorities have to prepare a budget statement before the beginning of each financial year (under section 251 of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009). After the end of that financial year they are required to prepare an outturn statement.
The Council decides the size of the schools budget before the beginning of each financial year. We use budget statements to tell schools and the public about our funding plans. Outturn statements show how the money was actually spent by the school and by us.
The statements are intended to provide a clear picture of our spending and:
- give schools, parents and others details about schools and local authority funding and expenditure;
- show how much of the whole education budget we intend to spend on items outside the schools budget;
- show how much we are proposing to keep centrally within the schools budget for school services;
- show how we work out the budget shares for each of our schools.
