Breathing Places

The BBC’s Breathing Places project aims to get people caring for their local green areas. Local and national wildlife organisations are working with the BBC to inspire you to get involved in changing your area. You can improve these places for wildlife, insects, birds and people.
Southampton is one of 15 cities selected as a ‘Breathing City’. This recognises our long term commitment to the natural environment.
There are many ways that you can get involved. Put a bird box in your garden; grow flowers to attract insects or join a conservation task. You may want to start your own ‘Breathing Place’ project. Why not create your own ‘Breathing Place’ in your garden, window box or flower tub? You could find more information and ideas at The Ideal Wildlife Homes Exhibition at The Springwatch Festival, 10 June on Southampton Common.
For further information on getting involved in any conservation project in the city please contact: The Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre on 023 8067 1921.
