The first floor of the Maritime Museum is being transformed with a new exhibition to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the Titanic tragedy. This unique display tells the story of her crew, the majority of whom came from Southampton. As the largest liner in the world, Titanic had a crew of 898, but only 212 survived the sinking.

This exhibition provides the opportunity to discover their story, what jobs they did, how they felt about the new ‘super liner’, their vivid recollections of the night Titanic struck the iceberg and the consequences for them and their families, which still reverberate in Southampton today.

Archive film footage, interviews with survivors, and unique artefacts combine to provide a new insight into the tragedy of Titanic’s loss and why the disaster continues to fascinate 95 years after she went to her watery grave.

Please note that the first floor of the Maritime Museum will be closed to the public for exhibition installation from Tuesday 5th March to Friday 13th March 2007.
