VIP Social Care Sector Training

VIP Access to Social Care Training from April 2011

Southampton City Council has provided financial support for Voluntary, Independent and Private (VIP) sector social care providers in Southampton (who have a contract with us to provide social care services to Southampton city residents) since 2002.

The council is committed to continuing this support in 2011 and beyond by making best use of central government grants. In previous years, financial support has been in the form of purchasing a place on courses run by a range of organisations. In order to make better use of resources, from April 2011, training for independent care sector organisations will be combined with training for Southampton City Council staff and independent care organisations will be able to book places on our calendar courses.

Southampton City Council contracted social care organisations will continue to be informed of new training arrangement and courses via direct email.

What types of course will we run?

Training will predominantly be for social care workers to meet national requirements (e.g. underpinning knowledge for Common Induction Standards, Qualification Credit Framework) as well as council strategic priorities (e.g. Dementia care / End of life care).

The council's training calendar can be viewed by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. Each of the courses has an indication of a "Target Staff Group(s)" whom can access this training. Where "VIP" is noted in the Target Staff Group column, then independent care sector organisations can book up to a maximum of two places on each course occurrence.

How to book or cancel

If you have found a course you would like to attend, contact the Southampton Learning and Development team to check that there are still places available:

by email learning.development@southampton.gov.uk or

by phone 023 8091 7770 and select "option one"

If there are then you will need to complete a booking form which you can download from the link below. Once you have completed it please attach it to an email and send it to learning.development@southampton.gov.uk.

Charges and cancellation

The council no longer charge voluntary, independent and private care sector organisations a contribution to the training costs. If you need to cancel we would ask you do so as early as possible but at least 10 working days prior to the course so places can be allocated to other delegates.

We reserve the right to charge the full cost of any training place (approx £125 per delegate per day) for non attendance - if you simply do not turn up, or cancel less than 10 working days before the course start date. If you are unable to attend, you may substitute with another person from your organisation but we do need to be informed of this. In the case of absence due to sickness, we would need to be informed up to or on the day of the training otherwise the full charge will be made.

All cancellations / changes must be made by email to learning.development@southampton.gov.uk or by phone 023 8091 7770 and select "option one"

We reserve the right to cancel or alter the dates or provision of service, the venue and the individual or organisation providing the service.
