What is a Voluntary, Independent or Private social care provider?
A "Voluntary, Independent or Private social care provider" is any organisation which is contracted by us to provide practical social care and support but is independent of the local authority. Principally this will be residential and domiciliary care but may include other organisations such as supported housing. The majority of paid for social care provision is provided by the independent sector and it is in everyone’s interest that all staff are trained to a high level.
Why has the government provided this grant?
The Government is eager to raise the standard of health and social care, and training is an important part of this. The VIP programme is working to provide opportunities to develop the workforce in line with the national minimum care standards. A properly trained workforce ensures that people who use social care services are helped to achieve the best quality of life. It is also a measure that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) uses when inspecting provider services and allocating them a star rating. For more information see the CQC link at the bottom of this page.
How do I know if I qualify to attend a course?
Training is for staff of Voluntary, Independent and Private sector social care providers who are both based in Southampton city and are contracted by us to provide care services to the residents of Southampton. If you are unsure whether you qualify or not, then contact us and we will be able to tell you. Both Hampshire and Portsmouth provide similar services, so even if we are unable to help you ourselves we may be able to refer you to someone who can.
How many places can my organisation book?
The amount of training you can book with us depends upon the number of employees in your organisation. If you have up to 25 employees you can book five days training for each employee per year up to a maximum of 25 courses. If you have 25 to 50 employees you can book 3 days training for each employee per year up to a maximum of 30 courses. If you have over 50 employees you can book three days training for each employee per year up to a maximum of 40 courses.
