The Severe Learning Disability Employment Service is provided by City Limits, Southampton Day Service's supported employment service. It is available to people aged 18+ who have a severe learning disability. The service is aimed at individuals who are motivated to move towards work and open employment.
Based upon the model of supported employment, an employment officer will work with an individual to develop a vocational profile – a positive assessment of a person’s abilities and aspirations; and then work with that individual to help them to achieve their goals.
The service is provided on a one-to-one basis with each person having their own named employment officer. Activities offered include:
- vocational profiling
- Job matching
- support to access training and education opportunities
- support with job applications / CVs
- support to find voluntary placements
- work experience and work trials
- interview practice and support
- support in work / job coaching
- benefits advice
- support for employers
