The Drug Action team (DAT) is a sub group of the Safe City Partnership and is supported by a small team of commissioning and coordinating officers based in Southampton City Council. The DAT partnership and support team are responsible for delivering the Drug Strategy 2010 - Reducing demand, restricting supply, building recovery: supporting people to live a drug free life. The strategy can be found by using the link below.
Members of the DAT partnership include Southampton City Council, NHS Solent Healthcare, Police, Probation service, service users, carers and voluntary sector groups.
The DAT oversees the way that money is spent on drug services and how these are provided, working within the aims of the Drug Strategy 2010;
- reducing demand
- restricting supply
- building recovery
DAT work involves;
- analysing what services are needed locally and then designing the services
- finding providers to deliver these services within defined budgets
- making sure that drugs services are accessible and effective
- co-ordinating the work of all the drugs services so that there is a full range available in the city
- ensure good communication between the drug service and support services
All work done by the Drug Action team is closely monitored by the National Treatment Agency (NTA) which in turn reports to the Department of Health.
