Drug information

Drugs are chemicals that change the way our mind and body work.

They are substances of natural or synthetic origin which can alter our emotional state, how we think and feel, our perceptions, our body functioning or our behaviour and generally tend to be illegal. Use of these drugs may lead to a criminal record.

New psychoactive substances (formerly 'Legal Highs’) are substances which produce the same or similar effects to drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy, but are not controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They are however, considered illegal under current medicines legislation to sell, supply or advertise for “human consumption”. To get round this they are sometimes referred to as research chemicals, plant food, bath crystals or pond cleaner. For more information on this, please see the 'legal highs' website link below.
