The registration service, based at the Register Office, 6a Bugle Street is responsible for the civil registration of all births, stillbirths, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships taking place within the registration district of Southampton City.
This service maintains birth, death and marriage registers and issues certified copy certificates for all these events occurring within the City from 1st July 1837 to the current day.
The registration service is also responsible for conducting marriage and civil partnership ceremonies and the licensing of venues where ceremonies can take place.
As part of the registration service, we can also offer you a choice of celebratory ceremonies including naming ceremonies and renewal of vows ceremonies.
In addition, Southampton Registration Service offers a Nationality Checking Service as well as administering and conducting British Citizenship ceremonies.

If you need to contact the Southampton Registration Service urgently outside the hours quoted above, regarding a marriage or civil partnership involving someone who is terminally ill, or a funeral to comply with a specific religious requirement, please call 023 8023 3344. On a Bank Holiday Monday, a registrar is available for emergency calls only on 0779 5307 568 between the hours of 10.00am to 12noon.
