Swaythling neighbourhood centre is a large, two storey building which sits on the site of the old Hampton Park School. The school was given over as a neighbourhood centre in 1976 and the community association was formed in 1988. It is a hub of the Swaythling communities including Flower Roads and Hampton Park areas.
Downstairs there is a meeting room with tea making facilities and a sink. Upstairs hosts the large hall or function room. It has a stage and an area which can be divided off as a separate section. Also available with the hire of the hall is a coffee lounge. The Nuffield Theatre group, along with a tai chi course and Southampton Youth Association, among others currently use the centre.
Volunteer at Swaythling neighbourhood centre
The centre is run by local volunteers who are responsible for the day to day running of the community centre and are always happy to hear from potential new volunteers. Are you interested in your local community and helping run a community meeting place? Anyone living in the area who would like to help is welcome to join. All types of skills are needed; secretaries, treasurers and lettings officers etc. If you don’t want a specific role don’t worry. All centres want community minded, enthusiastic people to help whatever their level of involvement. Most volunteers find it only takes a couple of hours a month.
