Doorstep crime

We have several ongoing projects aimed at doorstep crime. We include within those traders who call unannounced and persuade householders to pay excessive amounts for unnecessary work. We will take appropriate enforcement action where the law is broken.

Our advice is that you should not deal with people who cold call at your door trying to sell goods or telling you that they can do work on your house cheaply. Very often the work will end up costing much more than expected, it may not even be done and there is a real risk of burglary, theft and even assault.

You do not have to answer the door to people you do not know or do not expect to call, if they do not go away when asked or use threatening or abusive language then call the police.

Our aim is to provide a safe and secure trading environment.
