2. I am homeless and need a direct-access hostel. Who should I contact?

3. I am homeless and short of clothing. Where can I get help?

The Basics Bank provides clothing free of charge for adults and children.

Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00am to 2:00pm Fridays 10:00am to 3:00pm

The Basics Bank provide tins of food and clothing for homeless people. Basic Bank clothing and emergency food project is not open access, all clients must be referred via a voucher scheme. Vouchers can be obtained via the council's Homelessness Unit who can be contacted at Housing Services, Southampton City Council, Civic centre, Southampton. The Salvation Army, Northam, Southampton offer full day centre services and more. Telephone Number 023 8033 3508.
Two Saints Dismas Day Centre, 30 Cranbury Avenue, Southampton. Telephone Number 8022 3443.

This is a day service resource for homeless people. The day centre provides an average of 30 breakfasts and up to 80 cooked lunches daily. There are no charges made for any of the food. Washing and laundry can be provided and is prioritised and free for those who are rough sleeping. There is also a clothing store consisting of donated clothing, bedding and shoes. There is a fully accessible shower, bathing and toilet facilities; toiletries are free. No charges are made for clothing or showering facilities.

• Breakfast is served from 9:00am to 10:00am and lunch is served from 12:00pm to 1:00pm

4. I am homeless following an emergency. Who should I contact?

If your emergency occurs outside of normal office hours, the council's Out of Hours service can be contacted on telephone number 023 8023 3344.

5. I am sleeping rough in Southampton. Who should I contact?

Assessments by the Street Homeless Prevention Team for hostels take place Monday - Friday, 9.30am - 11.30am at the Two Saints Day Centre, 30 Cranbury Avenue, St. Mary's.

6. I need to get away from domestic violence. Who can help?

If you have had an emergency, out of normal working hours, that has left you without a home you can call the council's out of hours service on 023 8023 3344.

7. I think I’m going to be homeless soon, who can help?

If you think you are going to be made homeless soon, the council can give you free independent advice and support. They may be able to help stop you loosing your home and check that your eviction is legal and you are not being harassed. 8. Where can I get healthcare. Who should I contact?

You can contact the Homeless Healthcare Team which consists of doctors, nurses, community psychiatric nurses and health visitors. They can provide general health advice together with drug and alcohol advice for anyone sleeping rough. This includes people in a woman’s shelter, bed and breakfast, and hostel or bed-sit accommodation. No appointment is necessary and all help and advice is free of charge.

9. Where can I get information and help to fill in forms for benefits and welfare?

10. I am homeless and urgently need access to a doctor. Who should I contact?

You can contact the Homeless Healthcare Team which consists of General Practitioners (GPs), Practice Nurses, community Psychiatric Nurses and Health Visitors. They can provide general health advice and drug/alcohol advice for anyone rough sleeping, in a woman's refuge or in bed and breakfast , hostel or bedsit accommodation. 1. I am homeless and need help with food. Where can I go for help?

If you are single and homeless and need food you can attend the Two Saints Day Centre at 30 Cranbury Avenue , Southampton. SO14 0LT Monday to Friday: 9:00am to 4:30pm (also open to rough sleepers from 6:30am). Visitors must be sober.

2. I don’t have a home and have debts so I can’t get a bank account. Who can help?

A credit union may be able to help you. The members make regular savings, as little or as much as they wish. These savings then form a common pool of money from which loans are made to members. Co-operators Credit Union is Southampton’s local credit union. It is regulated by the Financial Services Authority. You can call them on 023 8033 0496.

3. I would like to offer food, clothing, and furniture to homeless people. Which organisations can I give them to?

Donations of food, clothing and furniture can be made to;

S.C.R.A.T.C.H is a registered charity which runs a number of services in Southampton providing food, clothing, furniture and white goods to vulnerable people. Telephone: 023 8077 3132

SCRATCH also launched community paint scheme in February 2003. This scheme provides a means of distributing surplus paint for use by disadvantaged people, charities, voluntary and community groups. Southampton City Community Wardens are probably the largest user of the scheme.

4. I would like to volunteer to help the homeless.

5. I’ve got a new home. Can anyone help me with furniture?

We may be able to refer you to the Dorcas Project. The project collects donated furniture and household items from the public. These items are then passed on to people who need them. Basic furniture items can be delivered, which include beds, bedding, seating, curtains, kettle, toaster and kitchen box. They are usually able to deliver within 5 working days. The project works on a very strict 'best goes first' basis, meaning that when there is a choice of items required, the best items are delivered.
