Energy - in the home

Reducing fuel poverty is a key priority for the city. (See the documents below). This free service helps residents to easily access all the available resources to help reduce fuel poverty. The service is available to all city residents, with the primary focus on helping owner occupiers and those in private rented accommodation.

The city council is working with local organisations this winter to help older and vulnerable residents who may be suffering the cold in their home.

If you already have, or plan to install microgeneration such as photovoltaic cells, you can earn money from your energy company. Under an initiative called the Feed-in Tariff, householders who install equipment to generate green electricity will benefit not only from the free electricity they produce, but will be paid for every kilowatt hour they generate. Switch Hampshire is a new free scheme run by all the local councils in Hampshire including Southampton City Council to help residents across Hampshire make savings on their gas and/or electricity bills.
