Energy Efficiency

Reducing fuel poverty is a key priority for the city. (See the documents below). This free service helps residents to easily access all the available resources to help reduce fuel poverty. These include the Warm Front scheme, and the free or subsidised insulation schemes. The service is available to all city residents. The primary focus is to help owner occupiers and those in private rented accommodation.

Free Insulation

If you are over 70 years and own your own home, or rent it from a private landlord you can get free loft and cavity wall insulation. For further details please telephone: 0800 512012*.

If you don’t qualify for the schemes above, the City Council has arranged a special £69 offer for cavity or loft insulation, with its partners Cocoon. Stop the cold and keep warm

The city council is working with local organisations this winter to help older residents who may be suffering the cold in their home.
If you or someone you know is over 50 and suffering from high heating bills and cold, uncomfortable housing call the Stop the cold telephone number: 0800 804 8601.

Feed-in Tariff - Want your energy supplier to pay YOU?

If you already have, or plan to install microgeneration such as photovoltaic cells, you can earn money from your energy company. A new initiative called the Feed-in Tariff, to pay householders who generate green electricity, 41.3 p for every kilowatt hour they generate, as well as getting the free electricity itself.
