Right to Buy is a government scheme that allows council tenants to purchase the property they rent from us. Tenants who are eligible will be able to buy their property at a lower price than the full market value.
If you are a secure tenant and have held a public sector tenancy for five years or more, you may be able to purchase the property you live in.
The Right to Buy scheme is open to most secure tenants with the exception of homes occupied in connection with their employment and housing specially provided for older people and (in certain cases) disabled people.
The discount is dependant on the valuation of the property and the length of your tenancy. The maximum discount is currently £38,000. A full guide to 'Your Right to Buy Your Home' is available on the Communities and Local Government website. A link to this website is at the bottom of this page.
