Problems paying your rent

The prompt and regular payment of your rent is your responsibility. However if you do fall into arrears, do not ignore the problem as we are here to help. If you are in arrears and finding it difficult to cope, get in touch with us straightaway on 023 8058 5565.

We will:
• discuss whether you are entitled to benefits
• help you with your claims
• refer you to a specialist money advisor if you think that may help
• discuss with you the best way for you to pay your rent
• make an agreement for you to pay the arrears in instalments

We want you to keep your tenancy!

Making an agreement
The golden rule with repayment agreements is not to promise more than you can afford to pay! We will make arrangements that allow you to pay the rent plus a contribution to the arrears. Arrangements can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly to suit when you get your income. The important thing is that the payments are realistic in terms of what you can afford in reducing your arrears. If you are unsure what you can afford we can send you an Income and Expenditure form which you can use to budget your income and outgoings.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Once we have reached an agreement, you need to keep to it. If for any reason this becomes difficult, call us! Do not just stop paying or pay a reduced amount. If you ignore us or fail to keep to agreements, we will take legal action.

What legal action?
We will serve a Notice warning of legal action and if the problem persists, we can take you to court and ask the court to evict you.

We do not want to do this. Our policy is to help you to be able to keep the tenancy, but if paying rent is a problem you will need to work with us to resolve things.
